What did the League do in response to Italy’s invasion of Abyssinia?
The League morally condemned Italy and imposed economic sanctions upon Italy.
Why were the economic sanctions imposed upon Italy a failure?
The sanctions excluded the trading of oil and Italy’s main trading partner was the USA. The USA wasn’t a member of the League, meaning the sanctions weren’t very effective.
What was the Hoare-Laval Pact? And who was it between?
The Hoare-Laval Pact was a secret agreement between Britain and France. It would result in Mussolini being given two thirds of Abyssinia. It was cancelled because it was leaked to the public.
Why did Britain and France think that the Hoare-Laval Pact was a good idea?
Britain and France feared that if Mussolini didn’t get his way, he’d draw closer to Germany and would turn against Britain and France.
