• Germany imposed a much harsher treaty on Russia. Russia lost nearly one third of its land area.

• It left Germany very angry and very keen to get revenge.
• Germany couldn’t afford the reparation payments.
• Britain and France fell out over reparation payments.
• The Treaty punished Germany enough to want revenge, but not enough to prevent Germany from seeking revenge once it recovered.
• Wilson put too much faith in the League of Nations.
