Q

What are the four borders of the cubital fossa

A

Lateral border- medial border of the brachioradialis muscle.
Medial border lateral border of pronator teres.
Superior border- hypothetical line between epicondyles of the humerus.
Cubital fossa floor- formed proximally by brachialis and distally by the supinator muscle

Q

How can you identify each structure

A

Radian nerve- passes underneath brachioradialis muscle
Bicep tendon- runs through cubital fossa attatching to radial tuberosity
brachial artery- divides into radius and ulnar arteries at apex
Median nerve- leaves the cubital fossa between two heads of pronator teres.

Q

List three reasons why the cubital fossa is clinically relevant

A

Brachial pulse/blood pressure
Venepuncture
Supracondylar fracture- common in young children due to hyperextension of elbow. May lead to volkmans ischeamic contractures if not treated quickly enough
