Muscles of the upper arm Flashcards
What are the muscles of the anterior compartment of the upper arm?
What are there actions?
Biceps, brachialis, coracobrachhialis
Flexors
What is the bicep brachii
What happens as the biceps brachii enters the forearm?
What innervates it?
Two headed muscle of the upper arm
A connective tissue sheet is given off termed the bicipital aponeurosis
Musculocutanoues nerve, Bicep tendon reflex test exhibits function at C6
What are the attachments of biceps brachii?
What are its functions?
Long head originates from the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula, short head originates from the coracoid process of the scapula. Attahces into the radial tuberosity
Supination of forearm, flexes arm at the elbow and shoulder
What is coracobrachialis
What innervates it?
A muscle lying deep to biceps brachii
Musculocuntaneous nerve
What are the attachments of coracobrachialis?
What are its actions?
Originates from the coracoid process of the scapula, passes through the axilla and attaches to the medial side of the humeral shaft
Flexion of the arm at the shoulder, weak adduction
What is brachialis?
What innervates it?
Another muscle lying deep to the biceps brachii
Musculocutaneous nerve
Where does the brachialis attach?
What are its functions?
Originates from themedial and lateral surfaces of the humeral shaft and inserts into the ulna tuberosity
Strongest flexor of the elbow
What is popeyes sign?
Overly large bicep due to rupture of the long hed of biceps brachii
What is the tricpes brachii
What innervates it
A three headed muscle found in the posterior compartment of the arm
Radial nerve (C7)
What are the attachments of the triceps brachii?
What are its functions
Long head origniates ffrom the infraglenoid tubercle
Lateral head originates from the humerus, superior to the radial groove
Medial head originates from the humerus inferior to the radial groove
Distally heads converge into one tendon adn enter the olecranon
Extension of the arm at the elbow
