Barbary Wars
Two wars between the United States of America and Barbary States in North Africa in the early 19th century. At issue was the pirates’ demand of tribute from American merchant vessels in the Mediterranean Sea. American naval power attacked the pirate cities and extracted concessions of fair passage from their rulers.
Adams-Onis Treaty
Known as transcontinental treaty. Jackson demonstrated ability to take FA by force. Spain had little choice but to cede it to the US
Monroe Doctrine
No more European colonization in the Americas, the colonies already there would be recognized, US would staty out of European affairs, and the US becomes the protector of the western hemisphere
Panic of 1819
Severe depression that followed the economic boom of the post-War of 1812 years; the Second National Bank, trying to dampen land speculation and inflation, called loans, raised interest rates, and received the blame for the panic. All this helped divide commercial interests of the East from the agrarian interests of an expanding West

Missouri Compromise
Missouri’s admission into the Union would disrupt the balance; Missouri would be admitted as a slave state and Maine would be a free state

Southern agriculture in less demand, cotton made it flourish as well as increase slaves in the South

An American industrialist known as ‘the father of US industry’ because he brought British textile technology to the US. He violated the British emigration law to come to America (one stating British machinists can’t leave Britain).
