Ballinger-Pinchot Dispute
Ballinger, Sec of Interior, was developing public land of Alaska. Pinchot found out and asked Taft to dismiss him. Went to Senate and fired for insubordination

Radical labor union led by William “Big Bill” Haywood. Wanted to get rid of “wage slave” and political protest

A policy aimed at furthering the interests of the US by encouraging the investment of US capital in foreign countries in order to safeguard US capital

Lowered tariffs on hundreds of items that could be produced more cheaply in the U.S. than abroad

Fixed “Sherman” loopholes. Made four things illegal: ruinous price cutting, tying contracts, inter corporate investments, and interlocking directorates
Federal Reserve Act (1913)
Created 12 district banks that would lend $ at discount rates (could increase/decrease amt. of $ in circulation); loosen/tighten credit with nation’s needs; first central banking system since 1836
