Tendinopathy Flashcards
State the difference between tendinitis and tendinosis
Tendinitis: inflammatory disorder
Tendinosis: degenerative disorder
State the most common sites for tendinopathy (7)
Achilles, patella, hamstrings, glutes, peroneal, tibialis posteriors and plantar fascia
In order state the structures that make up a whole tendon starting from tendon (4)
Fascicle, fibre, fibril, tropocollagen
What is a tendon cell called?
Tenocyte
Name some chemical reactions that occur in a tenocyte during tendinopathy (4)
Inflammation, cell proliferation, collagen remodelling and neoangiogenesis
What two molecules make ground substance?
PG and GAG
Are PG and GAG hydrophilic or hydrophobic?
Hydrophilic
What is the effect of water being drawn into the tendon?
Causes it to bulge, damaging cross fibres and occasionally tearing the tendon
What is neovascularization?
Influx of blood vessels that associate with nerve fibres into the tendon causing pain on movement
