Shoulder Dislocation Flashcards
What four tissues stabilise the shoulder joint?
Ligaments, labrum, rotator cuff and scapular musculature
What’s more common anterior or posterior shoulder dislocation?
Anterior (95%)
What position causes anterior dislocation and which way does it displace?
Position: abduction and external rotation
Displaces: antero-medially
What three structures are at risk of damage?
Vascular, neural and rotator cuff muscles
What are the five lesions that can occur due to dislocation
Hills-Sachs Bankart SLAP HAGL ALPSA
Describe a Hills Sachs lesion
Fracture on postero-lateral head of humerus due to impact of rim of glenoid
Describe the Bankart lesion
Labrum or associated fracture is pulled away from the glenoid
What does SLAP stand for?
Superior labrum anterior and posterior
What does HAGL stand for?
Humeral avulsion of the glenohumeral ligament
What does ALPSA stand for?
Anterior labral periosteal sleeve avulsion
What are the causes of posterior dislocation?
Blow to the shoulder, seizures or electrocution
