What muscles make up the rotator cuff?
Supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis
What is the role of the rotator cuff?
Stabilises the numeral head in the glenoid and provides physiological movement to the shoulder
Name some conditions the rotator cuff can have
Tendinopathy, tears, bursitis, impingement
State the risk factors of rotator cuff injuries
50+, diabetic, unusual scapula tracking, shoulder in flexion above 90 degrees for long periods of time
Describe a torn rotator cuff surgery
Arthroscopically usually
Joint and tendon is debriefed
Sometimes subacromial decompression
Rotator cuff tendons reattached to bone
Describe rotator cuff post surgery rehab (how long, treatment etc)
3-6 months, 6 weeks in sling
AROM and scapula stability
Shoulder strengthening, proprioception and sport specific rehab
