What is MS?
Inflammatory disease causing degenerative demyelination of the CNS resulting in severe neurological effect
What does “sclerosis” mean in MS?
Scarring and formation of plaques throughout the brain + spinal cord
What causes leakage of inflammatory cells?
Disruption of the blood brain barrier
Name and describe all types of MS
Benign - relapses but symptoms don’t get worse
Relapse Remitting - symptoms get worse after every relapse
Secondary Progressive - relapses then they stop but condition worsens
Primary Progressive - no relapses, condition progressively worsens

Ataxia Visual problems Spasticity and weakness Sensory loss Dizziness/ poor balance Sexual dysfunction Decreased intellectual function Fatigue
