FCOM-A/C GEN-20-20
HOW IS THE CABIN/COCKPIT TEMP CONTROLLED?
Via the AIR COND panel. Temp regulation is ensured by 2 Air Conditioning System Controllers (ACSC) which both have 2 lanes.
Regulated via the HOT AIR pressure regulating valve, TRIM AIR VALVES (add HOT air), tapped upstream of the packs, to the air from the mixing unit.
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21-10-AIR CON
HOW DOES THE PACK FLOW CONTROL VALVE OPERATE?
The valve is PNEUMATICALLY operated and ELECTRICALLY controlled. It gets its signals from ACSC.
If NO air pressure then a spring keeps it closed.
Valve automatically closes in the event of OVERHEAT, ENG START, operation of fire PB’s or ditching PB.
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21-10-20
WHAT IS THE EMERGENCY RAM AIR USED FOR?
To ventilate the cockpit/cabin to remove smoke or if both packs fail. Operated via RAM AIR PB, outflow valve moves to 50% position.
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21-10-20
WHERE IS THE AIR SUPPLIED VIA?
It is fully automatic. Supplied via: -2 PACK flow control valves -2 PACKS - the mixing unit, from the cabin and packs
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21
WHAT ARE THE PACK FLOW %’S WHEN SELECTED IN LO/NORM/HI?
LO - 80%
NORM - 100%
HI - 120%
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21-10-50
WHAT ARE THE FOUR FUNCTIONS OF CABIN PRESSURISATION?
- GND- Fully opens outflow valve on the GND.
- Prepressurisation -During T/O, increases cabin pressure to avoid a surge in pressure during rotation.
- IN FLIGHT-Adjusts cabin altitude for PAX comfort.
- Depressurisation-After touchdown, gradually releases residual cabin pressure before GND function.
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21-20-10
WHAT DOES THE CABIN PRESSURISATION SYSTEM COMPRISE OF?
- 2 Cabin Pressure Controllers CPC
- 1 Residual Pressure Control Unit RPCU
- 1 Outflow valve (1 actuator that has 3 motors, 2 auto & 1 manual)
- 1 control panel
- 2 Safety Valves
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21-20-10
WHERE DO THE CPC’s RECEIVE SIGNALS FROM?
- ADIRS
- FMGC
- EIU
- LGCIU
- EMER RAM AIR
FCOM-A/C SYSTEMS-21-20-20
WHAT DOES ‘OPT ALT’ MEAN ON THE CRUISE PAGE?
Optimum Flight Level. lowest cost for a given flight plan, cost index & gross weight. The FM updates this figure during the flight.
WHEN DOES THE ‘RAT’ AUTOMATICALLY DEPLOY?
When AC BUS 1 & 2 are lost.
WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM ALTITUDE FOR THE GEAR BEING EXTENDED?
25,000FT
WHEN IS THE PTU INHIBITED?
- During 1st ENG start and self tests during 2nd ENG start.
- also inhibited during & 40s after automatic operation (opening or closing cargo doors) of the yellow electric pump
ABOVE WHAT SPEED WILL AUTOBRAKE MAX OPERATE IN A REJECTED T/O?
72kt
AT WHAT SPEED DOES THE NWS STOP?
130kt
AT WHAT HEIGHT CAN THE AUTOPILOT BE USED ON T/O?
100ft
5s after lift off
WHAT IS ‘SAT’ & ‘TAT’?
- SAT = Static Air Temp, outside air temp
- TAT = True Air Temp, surface of the skin temp. usually warmer due to air compression.
WHICH HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RUNS THE NORMAL BRAKES?
GREEN
NAME THE 4 DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRAKING
NORMAL
ALTERNATE WITH ANTI-SKID
ALTERNATE WITHOUT ANTI-SKID
PARKING BRAKE
TALK ABOUT THE BANK PROTECTIONS
- If >33’ and sidestick released the A/C will return to 33’
- Limit is 67’
- if AOA or Highspeed protections activated then limited to 45’
- AUTOTRIM inhibited above 33’
WHAT ARE THE PITCH LIMITS
- +30’ Nose up in CONF 0-3
- +25’ Nose up in CONF FULL
- -15’ Nose down
TALK ABOUT ‘ALPHA FLOOR’
- Automatically sets TOGA when A/C reaches high AOA
- FAC generates signal
- Available from lift off to 100ft
- ALPHA FLOOR - TOGA LK, disconnect autothrust to regain control of thrust.
HIGH SPEED PROTECTION WHAT DOES IT DO?
- Automatically recovers from high speed upset.
- ALARM Activates at VMO +6kt/MMO +M0.01
- Pitch trim is frozen, A/C roll to 0’. Bank angle is limited to 45’
- Nose up order applied at VMO+16kt

WHEN DOES THE PTU OPERATE?
500psi difference
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR “IF WET:RWY TOO SHORT”?
ROW alert
If RWY wet or contaminated then GO AROUND.
Arms at 400ft agl to start of braking
FCTM AS-ROW/ROP
WHEN IS THE “ROP” FUNCTIONING?
From start of braking until the A/C stops.
“BRAKE, MAX BRAKING, MAX BRAKING” aural alert.
FCTM AS-ROW/ROP
WHAT DOES THE FMGS CONSIST OF?
- 2 FMGC’S

FCOM DSC-22_30-20
AT WHAT HEIGHT CAN THE AP NOT BE ENGAGED?
BELOW 100ft RA
FCOM DSC-22_30-30
WHAT IS THE TCAP SYSTEM?
TCAP - TCAS Alert Prevention
When a TA is triggered ALT* will engage and reduce V/S to around 1500 fpm.
WHAT IS TOS 2?
Takeoff Surveillance 2
Calculates the distance between the position at which brakes are released to the point the a/c will leave the ground.
An ECAM caution or WARNING will sound if it determines the distance inadequate when T/OFF power is set.
WHEN DOES ROW/ROPS ARM AND DISARM?
ROW ARMED at 400 ft until start of braking
ROPS starts at braking and DISARMS at A/C STOP.
ROPS is inhibited at 30 kt or less GND SPD
FCOM DSC-34-SURV-50-20
HOW LONG DOES THE “WINDSHEAR” WARNING LAST FOR IF IN THOSE CONDITIONS?
The system latches for 15 secs and will show on the PFD for that time. If at the end of the 15 secs, the audio warning will repeat (WINDSHEAR X 3) IF it still detects windshear.
WHAT IS THE “BACF” AND WHAT DOES IT DO?
BRAKING ACTION COMPUTATION FUNCTION
Only reports computed braking action when friction limits encountered (anti-skid activates), more so in LOW.
