FLIGHT CONTROL LAWS Flashcards
WHAT IS ALPHA-FLOOR?
it’s a protection that commands TOGA thrust from liftoff - 100ft regardless of thrust lever position.
When the A/C angle-of-attack A-FLOOR threshold has been reached and the A/C decelerates significantly then it commands TOGA.

WHAT IS VLS?
Lowest Selectable Speed
- 13VS for T/OFF, touch & go
- 23VS after flap retraction of 1 step
- 28VS Clean

WHAT IS V-ALPHA MAX?
Max AOA speed. corresponds to the max AOA that may be reached in Normal Law.
FCOM DSC 22_10-50
WHAT IS VMAX? AND WHEN DOES THE OVERSPEED WARNING HAPPEN?
MAX speed represented by the bottom of the red/black strip of the speed scale.
VMAX + 6kts
WHAT IS V-ALPHA PROT?
When reached at low speeds ( ALPHA PROT +1) then:
-the autopilot disconnects and the A/C rolls wings level and pitches down to maintain ALPHA PROT.
AT WHAT POINT DOES THE AP DISCONNECT DURING HIGH SPEED PROTECTION?
VMO + 15kt or MMO + 0.04
FCOM DSC-27-20-10-20
WHAT IS VMCG?
Minimum spd on the ground during takeoff which the A/C can be controlled during an ENG FAIL.
FCOM DSC-22_10-50-30
WHAT IS VMCL?
Minimum control spd in flight (MAX bank of 5*) if 1 ENG FAILS in APP flap setting
FCOM DSC-22_10-50-30
WHERE DOES V-ALPHA PROT, V-ALPHA MAX AND VSW GET THEIR DATA FROM?
They are computed via the FAC based on aerodynamic data for display on the PFD.
ACTIVATION of the protections is computed by the ELAC.
FCOM DSC-22_10-50-40
WHEN DOES THE ECAM DISPLAY AN OVERSPEED?
VMAX + 4kt
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PROCEDURE FOR AN OVERSPEED?
Select a lower spd or reduce power
Use SPEED BRK.
WHAT IS THE LOAD FACTOR PROTECTION?
It is limited to:
+2.5g & -1g in CLEAN
+2g & 0g for other CONFIGS
FCOM DSC-27-20-10-20
WHAT IS PITCH ATTITUDE PROTECTION?
For excessive pitch attitudes at low spd the A/C will reduce AOA.
30* up in 0-3 CONF - will reduce to 25*
25* up in FULL - will reduce to 20*
15* nose down - indicated by green = sign
FD bars will disappear when pitch exceeds 25* up or 13* down. Will return when angle is 22* and 10* respectively

WHAT IS GROUND MODE?
It is the direct relationship between sidestick deflection and elevator deflection without autotrim.
it may reduce max elevator deflection from 30* to 20*
FCOM DSC-27-20-10-20
WHAT IS FLIGHT MODE?
NORMAL LAW FLIGHT MODE is a load factor demand mode.
