Stimuli and Receptors + Nervous System Flashcards
what do receptors do?
they detect the stimulus and change it’s energy into nerve impulses - our sense organs are receptors, for example the eye converts light energy into nerve impulses
what does the receptor detect in the eye?
light
what does the receptor detect in the ear?
sound
what does the receptor detect in the tongue?
chemical
what does the receptor detect in the nose?
chemical
what does the receptor detect in the skin (touch receptors)?
pressure
what does the receptor detect in the skin (temperature receptors)?
heat
what does the CNS (central nervous system) consist of?
it consists of the brain and the spinal cord - the CNS coordinates all of the nervous responses such as moving or reflexes
what does the peripheral nervous system consist of?
the peripheral nervous system contains all of the other nerves which send impulses to all the effectors
