A
  • Minimally rotated sternum
  • Sternum free of superimposition from vertebral column
  • Entire sternum from jugular notch to tip of xiphoid process seen
  • Sternum projected over heart
  • Good visibility of the sternum through thorax

  • Shallow breathing
  • Can be taken on expiration be shallow breathing is preferred

A
  • Patient is first in AP on either bucky or table
  • Rotate patient 15-20 degrees into RAO (depends on body habitus)
  • Long axis of sternum centered to midline of IR
  • Top of IR 1 1/2” above jugular notch
