Q
What are the structures seen for a 15-20 degree RAO sternum?
A
- Minimally rotated sternum
- Sternum free of superimposition from vertebral column
- Entire sternum from jugular notch to tip of xiphoid process seen
- Sternum projected over heart
- Good visibility of the sternum through thorax
3
Q
What breathing technique is used for a 15-20 degree RAO sternum?
A
- Shallow breathing
- Can be taken on expiration be shallow breathing is preferred
4
Q
How is the patient positioned for a 15-20 degree RAO sternum?
A
- Patient is first in AP on either bucky or table
- Rotate patient 15-20 degrees into RAO (depends on body habitus)
- Long axis of sternum centered to midline of IR
- Top of IR 1 1/2” above jugular notch
5
Q
Where is the CR for a 15-20 degree RAO sternum?
A
- Perpendicular to midsternum
- Entering 1” lateral to MSP on elevated side
- At level of T7
6
Q

7
Q
What are the structures seen for a Right lateral projection?
A
- Lateral image of the sternum, free of superimposition by the ribs
- Superimposed SC joints and medial ends of clavicles
- Manubrium free of superimposition by the soft tissue of the shoulders
8
Q
What breathing technique is used for a Right lateral projection?
A
Suspend at deep inspiration
9
Q
How is the patient positioned for a Right lateral projection?
A
- Patient in lateral position at wall bucky
- Center sternum to midline of IR
- Place arms behind back and pull shoulders back
- Top of IR 1 1/2” above jugular notch
