Femur Positioning Flashcards
What IR is used for femur views?
14x17
What SID is used for femur views?
40”
What are the structures seen for an AP femur w/ knee?
- AP projection of femur
- No knee rotation on the distal femur
How is the patient positioned for an AP femur w/ knee?
- Patient is supine on table
- Ankle, knee, and hip in same longitudinal plane
- Epicondyles are parallel with IR
Where is the CR for an AP femur w/ knee?
Perpendicular to mid-femur and the center of IR
Where is the bottom of the IR for an AP femur w/ knee?
2” below the knee joint
What are the structures seen for an AP femur w/ hip?
- Femoral neck not foreshortened
- Lesser trochanter not seen beyond medial border of the femur or only a very small portion seen on the proximal femur
How is the patient positioned for an AP femur w/ hip?
- Patient supine on table
- Ankle, knee, and hip are in the same longitudinal plane
- Lower leg, knee, and hip rotated 10-15 degrees internally to place femoral neck in profile
How many degrees do you rotate the lower leg, knee, and hip for an AP femur w/ hip?
10-15 degrees internally
Where is the CR for an AP femur w/ hip?
Perpendicular to mid-femur and the center of the IR
Where is the top of the IR for an AP femur w/ hip?
At the ASIS
What are the structures seen for a mediolateral femur w/ knee?
- Lateral projection of femur
- Patella in profile
- Superimposition of femoral condyles
How is the patient positioned for a mediolateral femur w/ knee?
- patient rolled up onto affected side with knee flexed 45-degrees
- Femoral epicondyles perpendicular to IR
- Depending on patient comfort place opposite leg either forward or behind the injured leg to remove it from area of interest
How many degrees is the knee flexed for mediolateral femur views?
45 degrees
Where is the bottom of the IR for a mediolateral femur w/ knee?
2” below knee joint
Where is the CR for a mediolateral femur w/ knee?
Perpendicular to midfemur and the center of IR
What are the structures seen for a mediolateral femur w/ hip?
- Opposite thigh not over area of interest
- Greater and lesser trochanters not prominent
How is the patient positioned for a mediolateral femur w/ hip?
- Patient rolled up onto affected side with knee flexed 45-degrees
- Femoral epicondyles perpendicular to IR
- Adjust pelvis so that it is 10-15 degrees from lateral position to prevent sueprimposition
Where is the CR for a mediolateral femur w/ hip?
Perpendicular to midfemur and the center of IR
Where is the top of the IR for a mediolateral femur w/ hip?
At ASIS
