Steps for a Cable-Drive Exposure (8) Flashcards
Steps to follow when using an exposure device for radiography
- removing equipment from shielded storage enclosure
- verifying equipment prior to use
- setting up the exposure
- taking the exposure (actions to be followed during, after and after complete operation)
Removing equipment from the shielded storage enclosure
also known as a permanent controlled area
- must be resistant to fire and located away from corrosive and explosive hazards
- warning signs, symbols, information about emergency contacts (if dose rate is 25mSv/h)
- locked door
Equipment verification prior to exposure device use
done on safety equipment, exposure device and ancillary equipment
When the operation is to be conducted away from the licensee’s premises…
a few more checks have to be done.
Safe procedure at a job site
client and operating organization should plan the job and asses conditions together to facilitate work, save time and limit exposure
What should you do when arriving to a job site
- report to site supervisor
- find out type, size and location of job
- learn about workers scheduled breaks
Steps to follow before an exposure
Cable-Drive
- wearing a DRD, PAD, TLD or OSL
- verify survey meter operation
- survey exposure device walls and inspect ancillary equipment
- set up the shot - connect head hose + drive cable and ensure connection with a NO NOGO, lock camera, refer to operation manual
- lay the drive cable and source guide tube out (as straight as possible)
- additional shielding
- set up barrier
- ensure everyone is out of area, monitor entry points
- last check DRD
- unlock exposure device + set to operate
Steps to follow during an exposure
Cable-Drive
- push the Popsi-lock so red tag is visible
- quickly project source + monitor with survey meter
- set timer for exposure
- survey boundaries and ensure rate is <0.1mSv/h
- constant control of radiation area
- quickly crank to retract + monitor source travel with a survey meter
- ensure Popsi-lock engages to green position
Steps to follow after an exposure
Cable-Drive
- approach exposure device with a survey meter in front
2. survey camera and head hose to ensure they are shielded and compare reading from prior to exposure
Steps to follow after operation
Cable-Drive
- monitor with survey meter and disconnect head hose and crank, inserting plugs and covers
- lock exposure device
- check DRD
- take down signs and barriers
- store exposure device in secure area
- inform supervisor work is complete
