Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC)
Responsible for use of nuclear substances, application of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, and Certifying EDO’s
Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices (NSARD)
Contains regulations to conditions for an EDO can become and remain certified.
NSARD Section 24-29
Only people who can operate an exposure device are:
- CEDO’s
- EDO Trainee under supervision of a CEDO
To become a CEDO, you must prove to the CNSC received training, experience and skills to operate.
Comply with regulations and safety measures to be certified.
CNSC has authority to suspend or decertify.
CNSC Inspection Type I
Verification of safety and management procedures.
CNSC Inspection Type II
Verification of documents, certification, signage, radiation levels.
Exposure Device Operator Personnel Certification Guidebook (CSA-PCP 09)
Covers training requirements, apprenticeship training requirements, exam process.
Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSC)
ensures that the development, production and use of nuclear power and nuclear
substances in Canada do not present a risk to national security, the health and safety of
persons, and the environment
