Goals motivate performers to continue with their efforts and not give up too easily.

Goals that are targets directed towards and end result of the activity.
What are performance goals?
Goals that are directed towards the individuals end performance.
What are process goals?
Goals that are used to improve a skill and are often related to technique.
What is goal specificity?
Clearly defined goals = better performance
It is hard to evaluate goals if they weren’t clearly defined.
What is goal difficulty?
Research shows that setting difficult goals = better performance than setting easier goals.
Goals that are set just beyond reach = better performance than those achieved with ease.
What are other factors affecting goal setting?
Long-term and short-term goals: achievement of long-term goals must start with achieving short-term goals.
