Q

Why would positive trans more likely occur?

A

– can only happen if the structure and context skills are performed in are similar to those used in teaching.

– It is more likely if the information processing requirements are similar to the ones of the actual skill

Q

How does motor programs relate to bilateral transfer?

A

– Learning is transferred from one muscle group to another muscle group through a motor program
– Motor programs are generalised series of movement stored in the long-term memory and retrieve by a single decision.

Q

What are the two ways bilateral transfer takes place?

A

The cognitive aspect of the skill e.g. are understanding of what is required

And the motor programs being transferred to allow the pattern of movement that is learned almost almost automatically from one limb to another to another

Q

How can coaches optimise positive effect and limit negative effects of transfer?

A
  1. Make the practices realistic.
  2. Highlights similar movements of the skill.
  3. Teach similar skills close together.
  4. Make sure the previous skill is well learned.
  5. Use positive reinforcement.
