Spleen Channel Flashcards
What is the pinyin name for the SP channel?
Spleen Channel of Foot Tai Yin
What is the int/ext pair with SP?
Stomach Channel of Foot Yang Ming
What is the 6 channel pair with SP?
Lung Channel of Hand Tai Yin
What is the SP luo connecting pathway?
- origionates at SP 4 on the medial foot
- connects with ST channel
- enters abdomen and connects with intestines & ST
Describe the points + locations of the SP channel.
- 21 points from SP 1 at medial base of big toe - up leg to lateral chest - ends at SP 21 @ 7th intercostal in line with midaxilary line
1. Medial big toe nail bed - Jing Well Wood
2. Medial big toe distal and inferior to 1st metatarsal-phalangeal joint - Ying Spring Fire
3. Medial proximal and inferior to head of 1st metatarsal - Shu Stream Earth + Yuan Source
4. Medial distal and inferior to base of 1st metarsal - Luo Conencting + Confluent Pt of Penetrating Vessel
5. Medial ankle anterior and inferior to medial malleolus - Jing River Metal
6. 3 cun above medial malleolus in depression close to medial crest of tibia - 3 Yin Intersection SP.LV.KD
7. 3 cun superior to 6
8. 3 cun below 9 - Xi Cleft
9. Depression in medial condyle of tibia and posterior border of tibia - He Sea Water
10. 2 proximal to superior border of patella in vastus medialis belly - Sea of Blood
11. 6 cun proximal to 10
12. 3.5 cun lateral to REN 2 (at pubic symphysis), on lateral side of femoral artery (b/t artery and nerve), caution femoral artery & nerve - invigorates blood, decreases pain - urinary issues
13. .7 superior and .5 lateral to SP12 + 4 cun lateral to midline
14. 1.3 cun inferior to SP15
15. Level with umbilicus. 4 cun lateral to midline. Harmonize Digestion - Constipation
16. 3 cun superior to SP15
17. 5th intercostal space. 6 cun lateral
18. 4th intercostal space. 6 cun lateral - Lactation + Benefits Breast
19. 3rd intercostal space. 6 cun lateral
20. 2nd intercostal space. 6 cun lateral
21. Mid axillary line. 7th intercostal space. - Great Luo Connecting Point of SP
What is the SP divergent pathway?
- branches from primary in middle of anterior thigh
- follows ST divergent up to throat where it penetrates tongue
What is the Great Luo Connecting Channel of the SP?
- separates from primary at SP21 on lateral aspect of chest
- spreads through chest & lateral costal region, gatering blood from all luo connecting channels of whole body
What are the 5 SP Shu Stream Points?
- Jing Well Wood = SP1
- Ying Spring Fire = SP2
- Shu Stream Earth (Yuan Source) = SP3
- Jing River Metal = SP5
- He Sea Water = SP9
HORARY POINT = SP3
What are the principal function of the SP Channel?
- dominate transformation & transportation of products after ST R&R
- control blood = hold in place in vessels to prevent hemmorage
- dominates muscles + 4 limbs
- open in mouth = sense of taste
- control ascending of qi to counteract sinking & prolapse
MAIN ACTIONS:
- treat failure of T&T = loose stool, gurgling, undigested food
- treat disorders of intestines = dysenteric disorder, diarrhea, constipation
- tonify blood & qi
- resolve blood stasis (uterus)
- hold blood in place
- raise qi & prevent prolapse
- treat dysponea & fullness in chest
- calm & regulate spirit
- treat disorders of genitals
SP1
- Jing Well Wood Point
LOCATION: dorsal aspect of big toes, medial border of base of nail
NEEDLING: perpendicular or oblique insertion proximally .1-.2 cun or prick to bleed
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- stops bleeding = major point - uterine, urine, stool
- regulates the SP
- unbinds chest = fullness in chest, dysponea
- calms the heart & spirit
- restores consciousness
SP3
- Shu Stream Earth - Horary Point
- Yuan Source Point
LOCATION: medial side of foot, proximal and inferior to head of 1st metatarsal
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- tonifies SP and resolves dampness = borborgymus & diarrhea
- harmonizes SP & ST
- regulates qi = TONIFY YIN CHANNEL
SP4
- Luo Connecting Point
- Confluent Point of Penetrating Vessel
LOCATION: medial side of foot, in depression distal and inferior to base of 1st metatarsal
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- fortifies SP & harmonizes middle jiao
- regulates qi and resolves dampness
- calms spirit = emotional disorders
- regulates penetrating vessel = GYN issues
- digestive issues
SP6
- Three Yin Intersection (SP/LV/KD)
LOCATION: medial side of lower leg, 3 cun superior to prominence of medial malleolus, close to medial crest of tibia
NEEDLING: perpendicular or oblique proximal insertion 1-1.5 cun
CONTRAINDICATIONS: pregnancy
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- tonifies SP & ST = heaviness of body & 4 limbs
- resolves dampness
- harmonize LV & tonify KD
- regulates mensturation & induces labor
- regulates urination & benefits genitals
- calms spirit = emotional disorders
- invigorates blood
- activates channel & alleviates pain
