- 5 cun proximal to LI5 in line with LI11 - Xi Cleft LI - acute, poison - Intestines
- radial side of forearm, 4 cun distal to LI11
- radial side of forearm, 3 cun distal to LI11
- radial side of forearm, 2 cun distal to LI11 - 3 Arm Miles
- at elbow crease, 1/2 way b/t LU5 & the lateral epicondyle - He Sea Earth Point - total body heat clearing - skin disorder, cool blood/drain damp
- elbow flexed, 1 cun proximal & 1 cun lateral to LI 11
- lateral side of upper arm, 3 cun proximal to LI11 in line with LI15
- distal insertion of deltoid and brachialis muscle approximately 3/5 distance b/t LI11 & LI15
- depression anterior and inferior to acrominion at origin of deltoid - main pt for shoulder pain
- upper aspect of shoulder, depression medial to acromion & between lateral aspect of clavical and scapular spine (posterior)
- lateral neck, 1 cun inferior to LI18 on posterior border of SCM
- lateral neck in line with laryngeal prominance b/c SCM heads
- below lateral margin of nostril .5 cun lateral to DU26
- in naso labial grove at end of midpoint of lateral border of ala nasi
What is the LI luo connecting pathway?
- begins at LI 6
- joins with int/ext pair LU channel 3 cun above wrist
- ascends arem through LI 15 to the jaw & cheek
- divides 1 branch to teeth, 1 branch to ear to join the zong mai (LI, SI, ST, GB & SJ connect there)
What is the LI divergent pathway?
- separates on hand
- ascends arm to shoulder at LI15
- travels medially to spinal column
- descends to thorax, breast, LU & LI
- unites with LI primary channel
What are the 5 LI Shu Stream Points?
- Jing Well Metal = LI1
- Ying Spring Water = LI2
- Shu Stream Wood = LI3
- Jing River Fire = LI5
- He Sea Earth = LI11
HORARY POINT = LI1
What are the principal functions of the LI Channel?
- treat disorders of the yangming channel in the head
- treat disorders of the ear (luo connecting)
- expels wind, cold & heat from exterior
- clear wind/heat, interior heat, and fire poison
- clear yangming fire which disturbs HT & spirit
- assist LU in opening water passages
LI 2
- Ying Spring Water Point
LOCATION: radial border of index finger, in depression just distal to metacarpo-phalangeal joint
NEEDLING: oblique proximal or distal insertion .2-.3 cun OR perpendicular oblique insertion towards palm .5 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- expells wind, clears heat & reduces swelling = toothache, facial deviation
- alleviates pain = pain in throat & face
LI 3
- Shu Stream Wood Point
LOCATION: radial side of index finger, in depression just proximal to head of second metacarpal
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .5-2 cun directed towards SI3
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- expells wind & heat = pain & swelling of throat
- dispells fullness = borborygmus & diarrohea
- heaviness in body + pain in the joints (shu stream) = local finger pain
LI 4
- Yuan Source Point
- Command Point for Head (Face/Mouth)
LOCATION: dorsum of hand b/t 1st & 2nd metacarpal bones, at midpoint of 2nd metacarpal, close to radial border
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .5-1 cun
CONTRAINDICATED: pregnancy
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- regualtes wei qi and adjusts sweating =
- expells wind & releases exterior = cold/flu
- activates channel and alleviates pain = pain anywhere
- induces labor
- resotres the yang = loss of consciousness, cold (symptoms of yand collapse)
LI 5
- Jing River Fire Point
LOCATION: radial side of wrist, in center of hollow formed by extensor pollicis longus & brevis (anatomical snuff box)
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- clears heat & alleviates pain = nosebleed, pain & swelling of eyes, headache
- clears yangming fire = will travel to HT and disrupt spirit
- calms the spirit = mania depression
- benefits the wrist join = pain in wrist, fingers
LI 6
- Luo Connecting Point
LOCATION: 3 cun proximal to LI 5 on line to LI 11
NEEDLING: transverse oblique .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- expells wind, clears heat = toothaches, redness
- opens & regualtes the water passages = difficult urination, edema
LI 7
- Xi Cleft Point
LOCATION: 5 cun proximal to LI 5 on line to LI 11
NEEDLING: transverse oblique insertion .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- clears heat and detoxifies poison = clove sores, swelling of face
