Lung Channel Flashcards
What is the pinyin name for the LU channel?
Lung Channel of Hand Tai Yin
What is the int/ext pair with LU?
Large Intestine Channel of Hand Yang Ming
What is the 6 channel pair with LU?
Spleen Channel of Foot Tai Yin
Describe the points + locations of the LU channel.
- 11 points from 1st intercostal - down arm - to base of thumb nail
- 1st intercostal space, 6 cun lateral to midline (1 cun inferior to LU2) - LU Alarm Point (Mu)
- 6 cun lateral to midline in delto pectoral triangle (1 cun above LU1)
- 3 cun inferior to axillary fold, lateral border of biceps
- 1 cun lower than LU3 (4 cun inferior to axillary fold)
- cubital crease on radial side of biceps tendon - He Sea Water - cough + shoulder pain
- flexor aspect of forearm b/t LU5 & LU9 (7 cun proximal to LU9 + 5 cun distal to LU5) - Xi Cleft - cough + bleeding
- 1.5 cun proximal to LI5 (anatomical snuf box) b/t tendons of brachioradialis and adductor pollicis longus - Luo Connecting, Confluent Pt. Ren, Com Pt for Head & Nape, COLD + FLU
- 1 cun proximal to LU9 (at wrist crease) at base of styloid process - Jing River Metal, Horary Pt
- at wrist joint in depression between radial artery and adductor pollicis longus - Shu Stream Earth + Yuan Source, 100 Vessels (Circulation), Wrist Pain
- thenar eminence at midpoint of shaft of 1st metacarpal - Ying Spring Fire (Heat) - MAJOR throat point
- .1 cun lateral from radial border of base of thumb nail - Jing Well Wood
What is the LU luo connecting pathway?
- separates at LU 7 (1.5 cun proximal to anatomical snuff box) on radial aspect of forearm
- follows LU channel into the palm
- connects with LI
What is the LU divergent pathway?
- diverges from LU primary at the axilla
- passes anteriorly to HT channel in chest
- connects with LU and disperses in LI
- branch ascents from LU and ascensds to throat
- converges with LI channel
What are the 5 LU Shu Stream Points?
- Jing Well Wood = LU11
- Ying Spring Fire = LU10
- Shu Stream Earth (also Yuan Source) = LU9
- Jing River Metal = LU8
- He Sea Water = LU5
HORARY POINT = LU8
What are the principle functions of the LU Channel?
- governing qi and controling respiration
- controling desceminating & descending
- regulating the water passages (fluid pathology)
- controlling the skin & body hair
- opening into the nose
LU 1
- LU Alarm Point/Front Mu
LOCATION: 1st intercostal space, 6 cun lateral to midline
NEEDLING: transverse oblique towards shoulder .5-1 cun, caution pneumothorax
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- decends LU qi = cough
- transforms phlegm = congestion
- descends ST qi = vomit
LU 5
- He Sea Water Point
LOCATION: cubital crease on radial side of biceps tendon
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- clears heat from LU decends rebellious qi = cough
- activate channel, relaxes sinews & alleviates pain = pain in shoulder, upper arm, elbow
LU 6
- Xi-Cleft Point = Acute Conditions + Pain
LOCATION: flexor aspect of forearm b/t L5 & L9, 7cun proximal to LU9
NEEDLING: perpendicular or oblique .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- disceminates & descends LU qi = cough, wheezing
- clears heat & moistens LU = cough, chest pain
- clears heat & stops bleeding = coughing & spitting up blood
LU 7
- Lieque = Broken Sequence
- Luo Connecting Point of LU
- Confluent Point of Conception Vessel
- Command Point for Head & Nape
LOCATION: 1.5 cun proximal to LI5 (anatomical snuff box) between the tendons of brachioradialis and adductor pollocious longus
NEEDLING: transversely in proximal or distal direction .5-1 cun, avoiding cephalic vein
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- releases exterior & expells wind = MAJOR cold or flu point
- pacifies wind & phlegm
- regulates the water passages
- opens & regulates Conception Vessel = expel lochia, pain of genitals, urinary disorders
- activates channel & alleviates pain
LU 9
- Shu Stream Earth Point
- Yuan Source Point
- Hui Meeting Point of the Vessels
LOCATION: at wrist joint in depression between radial artery and tendon of adductor pollicis longus (level with HT7)
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .3-.5 cun, avoiding radial artery
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- tonifys LU & transforms phlegm
- promotes descending function of LU = cough
- regulates & harmonizes 100 vessels
- activates channel and alleviates pain
LU 10
- Ying Spring Fire Point
LOCATION: on thenar eminance of hand, at midpoint of the shaft of 1st metacarpal and the thenar muscles
NEEDLING: perpendicular insertion .5-1 cun
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- benefits the throat = painful obstruction, sore throat
- clears LU heat = pain, swelling, congestion, dryness
- descends rebellious qi = cough
- harmonizes the ST & HT = shortness of breath with HT painful obstruction, cough with hiccup
LU 11
- Jing Well Wood Point
LOCATION: extensor aspect of thumb, at the radial border of the bases of the nail - .1 cun from corner
NEEDLING: perpendicular or oblique insertion directed proximally .1-.2 cun or prick to bleed
ACTIONS & INDICATIONS:
- revives consciousness = from windstroke
