Their case took 11 years to reach the US Supreme Court, in 1857 the Supreme Court decided not to let the Scotts have freedom, they said African-Americans were not citizens so they had no constitutional rights they also said they couldn’t be taken away because they were property their owner still freed them anyway and Dred died a year later from tuberculosis
