Why are vitamins and minerals important
Because they are essential for a healthy body and prevent certain diseases
What do the vitamins do
Vitamin b- release of energy and repair tissue
Viramin c-helps protect the body from infection heals wounds and absorbs minerals from food
What is calcium
Calcium is found in milk,cheese and cereals its important in thw formation of thw bones and teeth and helps to make the bones strong
What is iron
Iron is found in many foods including meat its limked with haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood and formation of red blood cells
Why is water important
Most athletes and sports people need water when competing in order to imporve their performance and to offset dehydration in most sports,players take on water or hydrate at regular intervals. For example tennis players take on water at the change of ends
Why is fibre important
Fibre is important as it aids the function of the digestion systen and helps get rid of waste products
What is a complex carbohydrate
are found in natural foods, such as bananas, brown rice, wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta, nuts and potatoes.
Foods of this type help to provide energy for exercise and should form about half of your daily intake.
What is a simple carbohydrate
are found in their natural form in fruit and vegetables, and in their refined form in biscuits, cakes, chocolate and confectionery.
Wgat is dehydration
Dehydration: the loss of water and salts essential for normal body function.
What is metabolic rate
Metabolic rate: the rate at which metabolic processes take place; the rate at which a body uses up energy.
What is hydration
Hydration: being hydrated means the body has the correct amount of water in cells, tissues and organs to function correctly.
The average recommended daily intake is 2.5 litres of water for men and 2 litres for women.
What is a diuretic
Diuretic: making you produce more urine.
