Macronutrient
The nutrients we need in larger quantities that provide us with energy (carbohydrates, fats, protein.)
Carbohydrates
Used to provide the body with energy for work and exercise
Carbo loading
An increase in the amount of glycogen stored in the muscles and provides a slow-release form of energy that helps to delay tiredness.
Fats
Importants because they can provide energy and warmth for the body.
Proteins
Important to help build muscles and to repair damaged tissue, also to produce antibodies.
Micro nutrients
These are vitamins and minerals needed by the body in very small amounts.
Vitamins
A balanced supply of vitamin are essential to help the body function properly and can provide good vision and skin.
Minerals
Essential for a healthy body and the minerals are calcium and iron. Calcium is important for the growth of strong bones and teeth in children. Iron is needed for the formation of red blood cells.
Water
Vital for keeping the body well hydrated and a lack of water can lead to tiredness.
Fibre
Important part of a healthy diet and is essential for the digestive health.
