Soc-19 Short Term Efects On Exercise Flashcards
Muscle fatigue defenition
When your muscles get tired
Lactate accumulation:
when lactic acid gather in the muscles/ blood due to increased work intensity.
Heart rate defenition
a number of times the heart beats per minute.
What does BMP stand ford
Beats per minute
Stroke volume defeniton
the amount of blood pumped by the heart during each beat.
Cardiac output defenition
the amount of blood ejected from your heart in one minute.
Formula for cardiac output
CO = stroke volume (SV) x heart rate (HR)
Oxygen debt defeniton
The amount of oxygen needed at the end of physical activity to break down any lactic acid.
Effects on muscles:
-muscles fatigue so weakness and pain and tiredness in muscles
-no available oxygen for respiration produces lactic acid, known as lactic accumalation
-cramps occur which causes muscle to contraact in a pain full way
Effects in heart:
-increased heart rate
-strike volume so heart size increases and strnegth and thickness increases
-cardiac output
Effects on respiratory system
increased need for oxygen/ removal of CO2.
Increased rate and depth of breathing.
What happens to athletes who are fitter
Athletes who are ‘fitter’ will have a lower RHR and quicker recovery rate.
What happens when you exercise hard
When you exercise hard, you use up more oxygen than you take in. This
shortfall creates oxygen debt
