Soc 18: Flashcards
What is glucose
a major source of energy for most cells in the body.
What is aerobic respiration
.the process of releasing energy from glucose, using oxygen.
What is anaerobic respiration
the process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen.
What is aerobic exercise
working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continuous period, e.g. long-distance events.
What is lactic acid
a colourless acid produced in muscle tissues during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anaerobically at high intensity.
What is cramp
painful, involuntary contraction of a muscle, usually caused by fatigue.
What is Anerabic exercise
anaerobic activities are usually short but
intense e.g. sprinting, lifting weights and jumping
What is Anerabic exercise
anaerobic activities are usually short but
intense e.g. sprinting, lifting weights and jumping
What are examples of complex carbohydrates
Complex carbohydrates are for example startch that are found in natural foods such as brown ice ,wholemeal fruit, wholemeal pasta and wholemeal bread
What are emapkes of simple carbohydrates
They are natural forms of food such as fruit, vegtables, and in their refined form are things such as biscuits, cake, chocolate
What do fats provide for
Fats can only privide energy source for moderate-intensity but for long periods of time
What do carbohydrates provide for
Carbohydrates provide energy sources for both moderate/high intensity
