Soc 16 The Structure Of The Blood Vessels And Blood Distribution Flashcards
What is the vascular shunting
Process that increases blood flow to activate areas during exercise by diverting blood away from inactive areas this is achieved by vasodilation and vasoconstriction
Immune system
The structures and processes in your body that stop diseases.
Thrombokinase
Aubstance involved in blood clotting
Serotonin
Hormone that teiggers the clotting process.
Plasma
The fluid part of the blood
Red blood cells
Most of the blood is made up of red bloods cells or erthrocytes the pigment of the blood that gives it its xolour haemoglobin. This also attracts the oxygen to the blood picking it up at the lungs
White blood cells
The blood also contains transparent cells called white blood cells or leukocytes
The are the defence system of the body
Destroy pathogens which cause ilnesses
Blood platelets
Formed in the bone marrow and produce a substance called thrombokinase which is essential for the blood clotting.
Cardio respiratory system
The interaction of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to muscles during exercise.
Cardiovascular
To do with the heart blood and blood vessels together.
Vasolidation
When veins swell up or dilate and widens the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessel to allow increased blood flow
Vasoconstriction
When veins shrink down narrowing of the internal diameter of the blood vessel to decrease blood flow.
Artery
A muscular tube that carries blood away from the heart
