Soc 15 - The Structure Of The Heart Flashcards
What are the four chambers
The 4 chambers are the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle and the left ventricle
Role of the right atrium
Recieves deoxygenated blood from systemic veins
Left atrium
Recieves deoxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins
How the heart pumps the blood
First phase is when the heart contracts called systole. Contractions happen in two waves.
Ventricles
The two ventricles are thick walled chambers that forcefully pump blood put the heart.
Valves of the heart
Heart hss two types of valves to keep the blood flowing in the correct direction
Biscuspid valve
an aortic valve that only has two leaflets, instead of three. The aortic valve regulates blood flow from the heart into the aorta.
Triscupid valve
The tricuspid valve is one of the two main valves on the right side of your heart. Normally, the tricuspid valve has three flaps (leaflets) that open and close, allowing blood to flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle in your heart and preventing blood from flowing backward.
What is the aorta
The aorta is the main artery that carries blood away from your heart to the rest of your body. After the blood leaves the heart through the aortic valve, it travels through the aorta
