Soc 15 Flashcards
Transportation
It helps to transport oxygen to the muscles, carbon dioxide out, and
nutrients around the body.
Body Temperature
The blood controls the body temperature with Vasodilation ans
Vasoconstriction.
Vasodilation
When viens swell up or dilate, the widening of the internal diameter of
the blood vessels to allow increased blood flow
Vasoconstriction
When viens shrink down, narrowing of the internal diameter of the
blood vessel to increase blood flow
Cardio-respiratory system
The interaction of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to muscles
during exercise.
Vascular shunting
Your muscle need more blood for movement so move away from
organs to the muscles, that is called vascular shunting. Your heart
starts to beat faster and your blood vessels constrict to divert blood to
muscles. Your reflexes get faster and your muscles may tense up
Arteries
Take blood away from the heart. It has thick walls and are more elastic which is higher pressure. The channel to blood flows through called tye lumen.
Veins
Veins take blood towards the heart. Veins have much thinner walls and are less elastic and carry blood at low pressure. They contain many valves Who is help deoxygenated blood flow to the heart
Capillaries
They are microscopic cells 1 cell thick and they carry oxygenated blood which transfers oxygen and the other end gey carry dexygenated blood into the veins picking up waste products. Also its were gases exchange
