What is plagiocephaly and how do you treat it?

A
  • Parallelogram shaped head - occipital flattening.
  • Increased due to back to sleep campaign.
  • Treatment
    • The vast majority improve by 3-5 years of age (upright posture)
    • Helmets are not usually needed - RCTs show no significant outcome difference.
    • Baby time on tummy.
    • Turning cot & toys around.
    • Supervised supported sitting during the day.

What is Craniosynostosis?

A

Premature fusion of the skull bones.

Can cause rasied ICP so look for papilloedema.

CT is gold standard for diagnosing carniosyntosis BUT refer to paeds if suspected.
