15
Q

Frontal bone (location, structure, sutures)

A

-forms the forehead & upper part of the orbital cavity (eye sockets)
-single bone that includes forehead, roofs of the orbits, most of anterior cranial floor; sinuses (frontal sinuses)
-articulates with the parietal bones at coronal suture

16
Q

Occipital bone (location, structure, sutures)

A

-forms posterior and inferior parts of cranial cavity
-single bone includes back of skull & base of skull around the “foramen magnum” (hole where spinal cord exits skull)
-articulates with parietal bones at lambdoid suture

17
Q

foramen magnum

A

hole in the occipital bone where spine exits skull

18
Q

Sphenoid bone (location, structure, sutures)

A

-base of skull in between temporal and frontal bone (anterior to occipital)
-butterfly shaped bone that forms floor of cranial cavity; forms part of sinus
-articulates with all other cranial bones

19
Q

Ethmoid bone (location, structure, sutures)

A

-roof of nasal cavity & base of cranium
-between orbital cavities, forms part of nasal septum & lateral walls & roof of nasal cavity; contains numerous air cells that form ethmoidal sinuses
-articulates with frontal bone anteriorly & sphenoid bone posteriorly

20
Q

Maxilla Bones (location, structure)

A

-upper jaw & parts of orbit, nasal cavities, hard palate
-paired bones fused at midline, contains upper teeth (floor of orbital cavities, roof of mouth; contributes to formation of nasal cavity & paranasal sinuses)

21
Q

Mandible bone (location, structure)

A

-lower jawbone, only moveable bone of skull
-largest & strongest bone in face, holds lower teeth

22
Q

Zygomatic bones (location, structure)

A

-cheekbone
-connects with maxilla, temporal bone, sphenoid bone, frontal bone; forms part of orbit (supports eye)

23
Q

nasal bone (location, structure)

A

forms bridge of nose; small paired rectangular bones that form upper part of nasal septum; shape and support to nose

24
Q

lacrimal bone (location, structure)

A

smallest, most fragile bone of face; small thin bones forming part of the medial wall of each orbit
-right inside the eye socket area near nasal bone
-contains lacrimal fossa that houses lacrimal sac; integral to tear drainage system

25
Q

palatine bone (location, structure)

A

back part of nasal cavity & roof of mouth (behind the maxilla)
-L-shaped, contributes to formation of hard palate, nasal cavity, & sinus

26
Q

Vomer bone (location, structure)

A

forms part of the nasal septum; located in midline of the nasal cavity
-thin, plowshare-shaped bone that divides nasal cavity into left and right nostrils (in between L & R palatine bones)

27
Q

inferior nasal conchae (location, structure)

A

project from the lateral walls of nasal cavity
-paired curved bones that form part of the lateral walls of the nasal cavity

28
Q

facial bones: My mouth’s palate never liked zuchinni in vinegar

A

mandible-maxilla-palatine-nasal-lacrimal-zygomatic-inferior-vomer

29
Q

which two bones form the hard palate?

A

maxilla and palatine bones
