Shoulder Region III Flashcards
serratus anterior: location
anterolateral
serratus anterior: origin
lateral surfaces of upper 8-9 ribs
serratus anterior: insertion
costal surface on medial border of scapula
serratus anterior: innervation
long thoracic nerve
serratus anterior: action
protraction and rotation of scapula
what causes winged scapula?
push against resistance, serratus will become prominent, if paralysed, scapula will flare backwards
eg. Poland syndrome
lack of pectoralis major and minor, no muscle however not too big effect -> other muscles will replace missing
locomotion from limb to limb called:
brachiation
scapular-humeral mechanism:
allow for complete 180˚ abduction, elevate arm above the head
- every 3˚ abduction, 2˚ abduction at shoulder joint, 1˚ rotation of scapula
at 120˚ abduction, greater tuberosity of humerus hits lateral edge of acromion
define axilla:
- clavicle
- scapula
- upper thoracic wall
- humerus
- related muscles
inlet of axilla:
- lateral margin of rib 1
- clavicle
- superior margin of scapula -> coracoid process
anterior wall of axilla:
- pectoralis major and minor
- subclavius muscle
- clavipectoral fascia
lateral wall of axilla:
intertubercular sulcus
posterior wall of axilla:
- subscapularis
- teres major and
- latissimus dorsi
- long head of triceps brachii
floor of axilla:
- skin of armpit
- open laterally into arm
