Shoulder Dislocation Flashcards
What is the most common type of shoulder dislocation (Glenohumeral dislocation)?
Anterior shoulder dislocation
- humeral head lies anterior and inferior to glenoid
Anterior shoulder dislocation? (2)
External rotation and abduction
35-40% recurrent (it is the commonest disorder)
What is it associated with?
Associated with greater tuberosity fracture, Bankart lesion, Hill-Sachs defect
Inferior shoulder dislocation also known as? Why?
Luxatio erecta - arm appears to be permanently held upward or behind the head, in fixed abduction.
Posterior shoulder dislocation signs? (3)
Proportion misdiagnosed.
Rim’s sign (widened glenohumeral joint > 6 mm)
Light bulb sign (internally rotated humeral head takes on a rounded appearance)
Associated with Trough sign (dense vertical line in the medial humeral head)
Superior shoulder dislocation? (2)
Rare
usually following major trauma
Mx? (4)
- Analgesia
- Temporary sling
- X-ray prior to reduction to exclude associated fractures
- Reduction with sedation and analgesia
Common complication?
Axially nerve damage
