Short Term Effects of exercise on cardio-respiratory system Flashcards
when you start to exercise what happens to the cardio vascular system
heart rate, stroke volume, BP and cardiac output will increase
vasular shunting will also occur
when you start to exercise what happens to the respiratory system
depth of breathing, rate of breathing, gas exchange and tidal volume increase
oxygen deficit will also occur depending on the nature of exercise
what do these changes mean for the respiratory and cardiovascular system
as the breathing depth and rate increase it draws air into the body faster
gas exchange can occur more quickly and the increase in blood flow means that the blood can pick up more oxygen from the lungs and transport it more quickly to the muscles
there is increased oxygen delivery to muscles from lungs and increased removal of CO2 from muscles to lungs
definition of heart rate
number of beats per minute
definition of stroke volume
the amount of blood leaving the heart each beat
cardiac output
the amount of blood leaving the heart per min
breathing rate definition
the number of breaths per min
recovery rate
the time it takes for the heart rate to return to resting rate
what is the cardiac output equation
cardiac output= heart rate x stroke volume
