- broad spectrum ABs - co-amoxiclav in pregnancy
- IV fluids
What does co-amoxiclav not cover?
MRSA
Psuedomonas
What antibiotics are used for septic shock?
Tazocin
Clindamycin
Gentamicin
What sign can lead you towards infection when invx vaginal discharge/blood loss?
Offensive smell
What is number one risk factor for sepsis and development of chorioamnioitits (infection of placenta and amniotic fluid)?
Prolonged rupture of membranes - allows infection to pass from vagina into uterus
What strep is found in 20-40% of mothers vaginas?
What can it lead to?
Is it routinely tested for?
Under what circumstances are mothers given prophalyatic ABs antenataly?
Strep B (group B strep = GBS)
Neonatal sepsis v rarely
No because it rarely leads to it
Previous kid was affected by GBS
Was routinely found antenatally
Delivery planned <37wks
