What is the difference between primary and secondary infertility?
Primary = THIS couple have NEVER conceived (not even miscarriage, ectopic etc.)
Secondary - have conceived at some point
What is the biggest risk factor for infertility?
Increasing age
How do you assess if a patient has ovulated?
Midluteal (day 21) serum progesterone - 1 wk before day of period
How many times are couples recommended to have sex?
2-3/wk
How is female tubal latency tested?
How does the differ if woman has other co-morbities e.g. endometriosis, PID, previous ectopic pregnancy?
HSG - hysterosalpingogram
Laproscopy and dye
What 2 infections are tested for in infertility?
rubella immunity - if catch during pregnancy crosses placenta and attacks newborn
Chlyamida screen - can cause upper genital infection which leads. to permeant damage
