Anatomy - Perineal Pouch Flashcards
Where is the deep perineal pouch found in relation to the pelvic diaphragm?
Inferior to the muscles of the pelvic diaphragm there is a fascia
Deep perineal pouch is below this fascia
What is the proper name of Cowper’s glands?
Found in males or females?
Purpose?
Bulbourethral glands
Males - posterior to urethra in the deep transverse perineal muscle
To secrete small about of lubricating fluid into urethra
What is the muscle which surrounds the urethra in males and females?
Compressor urethra
What is the female equivalent of the deep transverse perineal muscle?
Smooth muscle band
this is disputed a lot in anatomy
What is found inferior to the deep perineal pouch?
Perineal membrane - thin sheet of tough fascia
What kind of erectile tissue is the clitoris and crura (extensions of clitoris) made of?
Hence what muscle covers them?
Corpus cavernous (caverns which fill with blood)
Ischiocavernosus
- same concept in males - makes up more dorsal side of penis
What is the name of the tissue which lies in labia position and what is it made of?
What muscle covers this?
Bulb - corpus spongiosus
Bulbospongiosus
- same concept in males
Is the bulb of the penis found on the dorsal or ventral side?
Ventral - closest to testes
NB: Anatomical position of penis is erect
Both males and females have a superficial transverse perineal muscle. T/F?
What structure does it surround?
T - anus
