SCSI Device Cables Flashcards
What is SCSI?
Small Computer System Interface. a set of standards for connecting and communicating between various computer components and peripherals, particularly storage devices.
What did SCSI orignally use in its first iteration?
it was a parallel interface.
what is a parallel interface?
a type of data communication method in which multiple data bits are transmitted simutaneously over multiple wires or channels.
what is iSCSI?
Internet Small Computer System Interface. a protocol that allows for the transmission of SCSI commands and data over TCP/IP networks.
what does iSCSI do?
enables remote access to storage devices over standard Ethernet networks, making it possible to use existing IP based networks for storage purposes. The technology allows a computer to send SCSI commands to a remote storage device as if the device were directly connected to the computers local SCSI bus.
What is PATA?
Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment
What is a logical unit?
a fundamental concept in storage and data management, particularly within the context of SCSI and Fiber channel protocols. An LU represents a distinct adressable unit of storage, typically residing on a storage device such as a hardrive, SSD or storage array. Each LU is identified by a unique address or identifier within a storage system.
what is a SCSI terminator?
a passive electronic component used to properly terminate the ends of a SCSI bus.
what is a serial attached SCSI?
a point to point serial protocol that moves data to and from computer storage devices such as a hardrive.
What were PATAs originally called?
IDE. Integrated Drive Electronics. The second generation was called EIDE (Enchanced Integrated Drive Electronics)
What is PATA called now?
Parallel ATA
