Computer Power Flashcards
What power does a computer use?
DC
What type of power comes from the source?
AC
what is an ampere?
often abbreviated as amp. the rate of electron flow through a wire.
what is voltage?
the electrical pressure that pushes the electrons.
what is a watt?
the measurement of real power use. it measures the rate at which energy is transferred or converted.
what is AC?
alternating current. an electrical current that periodically changes direction, flowing back and forth in a cyclic manner.
what is DC?
direct current. an electric current that flows consistently in one direction, maintaining a consistent polarity.
what is the voltage in north america?
110 to 120
what is the voltage in europe?
220 to 240
what volatges do main motherboards provide?
+3.3, +/5, +/ -12
whats a fixed connector?
a type of connection interface that is permanently attached to a device or component.
what are the benefits of having a modular system?
you can decide what cables you will plug in, you can plug in as few or as many cables as you want. fewer left over wires = better air flow.
how do you determine the proper size requirements for your system?
calculate the watts required for all components, this can be done with an online calculator.
what component is usually the largest power draw?
the video card
