What is an impact printer?
A
also referred to as a dot matrix printer. Contains a print head with a small matrix of pins which it presses against a ribbon to make a mark on paper.

What are the benefits of an impact printer?
A
very low cost per page compared to other printers. Good for making multiple copies.

What are the downsides of an impact printer?
A
They are extremely noisy and have poor graphics.

How does the impact printer work?
A
The printer head moves back and forth , there is the ribbon in front of the paper and on the other side of the ribbon is the print head. The print head is large due to a heat sink attached to it, to dissapate heat.
