what is a multifunction device?
an output device that performs a wide array of functions. Such as printing, scanning, fax, provides network connection, phone connection, print from web.
what is PCL?
Printer Command Language. a page description language developed by HP for controlling various laser printers.
what is PostScript?
a page description language developed by adobe and more popular with high end printers.
What are two wired ways the printer can communicate with its print job?
USB B. the computer end of the connection will be connected with a USB A. An ethernet connection will us an RJ45 cable
what are two wireless connections used for printers?
if the printer is close enough, it will be bluetooth. if the printer is not close, it will be connected via 802.11 wireless connection.
what are two ways to use the 802.11 connection with printers?
one is infastructure mode with an access point to allow multiple connections. you can also configure a one on one connection with 802.11 ad hoc
what is Printer Share?
this refers to the practice of making a printer connected to one computer accesible and usable by other computers on the network.
what is a print server?
a device or software application that manages and controls printing tasks on a network. It centralizes and streamlines the printing process for multiple users.
how does a print server work?
its usually software that is running on the printer itself. jobs are queued directly on the printer and managed on the printer. To provide this there is usually a web based front end.
what is the duplex option on a printer?
when the printer is able to print on both sides of the paper.
what are other options you can set on a printer?
landscape or portrait mode, quality, what type of tray,
what is secure print?
a feature offered by many modern printers and multifunction devices that enhances the security of printed documents. It works in that printing only occurs when the user is physically at the computer and enters a pin.
What is ADF?
Automatic Document Feeder. a feature commonly found on scanners, printers and multifunction devices. ADF streamlines the process of scanning or printing multiple pages.
What is Server Message Block?
a network protocol used for sharing files, printers and other resources between computers on a LAN or over the internet.
