3D Printers Flashcards
What is a 3D printer?
A 3D printer “prints” in 3D dimension. It creates a 3D model based on an electronic model. It builds in layers to create the model.
What is another term for 3D printing?
additive manufacturing
What is a benefit to using a 3D printer for design?
It is quick and relatively inexpensive.
What is FDM?
Fused Deposition Modeling
How does FDM work?
it is filament printing. The filament is being melted and placed in a very fine layers to create the object. The most common type of 3D printer.
What are the benefits of FDM?
It has a larger print bed, its easy to manage filament, minimum mess, fewer disposal issues.
What is SLA?
Stereolithography Printer
What does an SLA do?
This one creates very fine 3D objects. It uses resin which is hardened. Layers are added to the bottom while the entire print hangs from the build platform.
What precautions should you take when using resin?
wear protective gear and take unused resin to a local hazardous materials disposal.
