What is an expansion card?
a hardware add on that can extend the functionality of your computer.
what is a sound card?
can enhance a computers audio capabilities by providing features such as audio playback, recording, sound effects and more. They enable computers to produce sound for various applications including multi media playback, gaming, voice communication and audio production.
what is a video card?
also known as a graphics card or a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is a hardware component thats responsible for rendering and displaying visual information on a computer monitor or display device.
what is discrete graphics?
a graphics solution where a separate and dedicated graphics card is used in a computer system to handle graphics processing tasks. this is in contrast to integrated graphics where the processing is integrated into the same chip as the CPU.
what is a capture card?
when you want to have video or audio as input from external sources such as a camera, game console, set top boxes, and other multimedia devices. It allows user to capture or stream content from these sources onto a computer.
what is a network interface card?
also known as a NIC, a hardware component that allows a computer or device to connect to a network and communicate with other devices over that network.
what devices do you most often see NIC used with?
servers, routers and additional security devices.
what is a device driver?
often just referred to as a “driver”, is a software component that faciliatates communication between an operating system and a specific hardware device. Drivers act as intermediaries enabling the operating system to interact with and control hardware components effeciently and correctly.
where on your computer can you check for previously installed drivers?
you can check for any previous installations and performance stats through the Windows Device Manager
