Schedule 1 Flashcards
To build a Schedule, what gets organized?
Activities and tasks of the Work Package
How are the tasks arranged in a Network Scheduled Diagram?
in a logical path
(see diagram study tab)
What is the document stating how to define tasks & activities?
the Schedule Management Plan
What is it called to use similar past examples of the Schedule Management Plan from other projects to give the schedule a starting point?
Benchmarking
What is used to learn lessons from completed projects in the organization?
Historical Data
Once the logical order for the Schedule mgmt plan is established, we determine dependencies. What are the two types of dependencies?
Mandatory
Discretionary
Define a Mandatory dependency
MUST do step one before step 2
- Contract specifies client approval before you move onto next task
- Compliance inspection after a task complete
Define a Discretionary dependency
prefer for step 1 to come before step 2
True or false, dependencies can be both Internal and External?
true
Which task dependency is the most common?
- finish to finish
- start to finish
- finish to start
- start to start
Finish to Start: A task cannot start until a previous task is completed.
What is it called when a task cannot start until a previous task is completed.
Finish to start (FS)
What is it called when a task cannot finish until another task is completed.
Finish-to-finish (FF)
What is it called when a task cannot start until another task begins.
Start-to-start (SS)
What is it called when a task cannot finish until another task starts.
Start-to-finish (SF)
This is an uncommon type of dependency, usually found in scheduling-related events where there is a handover between tasks. For example, an initial output from task B may be required for the final part of task A.
What is the time it takes to do a task?
Task Duration
When looking at estimate durations for tasks, there are 4 methods. One of them is Analogous, what is this method known for?
Being inaccurate. Only used when limited project info is known. Based on historical calculations.
In a Parametric method, what is used to calculate task durations?
a computer algorithm
What is the most likely type of estimate duration for tasks, and what does it incorporate?
three-point
optimistic, pessimistic, most likely
(see formulas tab)
In a Bottom-up method, what is used to calculate task durations?
the WBS dictionary, review tasks and activities we have, and determine what everything will cost in terms of time.
How do you calculate Triangular Distribution (of days it takes to do a task)?
(O+ML+P)/3 = # of days to do the task
Optimistic = O
Most Likely = ML
Pessimistic = P
How do you calculate Pert (Beta) Distribution (of days it takes to do a task)?
Weighted Average is called BETA or PERT Distribution
(O+4M+P)/6
(O+M+M+M+M+P)/6
Optimistic = O
Most Likely = ML
Pessimistic = P
Quiz: Estimate Durations
(time it takes to do tasks)
Optimistic = 8
Most Likely = 14
Pessimistic = 26
Calculate Triangular + BETA
Triangular: 16
BETA: 15
What is a gap in time between to tasks?
Lag
What is an overlap of two tasks; occurring simultaneously?
Lead
What is the definition of Critical Path Method (CPM)?
The longest one.
Used to identify the longest it could possibly take to complete a project.
(see chart tab)
What is is the maximum amount of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the project?
Total Float
What is the amount of time an activity can be delayed without
impacting the Early Start date of any of its immediate successors?
Free Float
Can a task can have both Free Float and Total Float?
Yes, they are independent of one another
How much total float does an activity have on the critical path?
0
In CPM (critical path method), what is it called to tie up loose ends at before a release?
Iteration H or Hardening Sprint
In CPM (critical path method), what is it called when no changes can happen and work on tasks needs to stop for a time?
Black-out times
Usually when users are testing
