Ruminant GIT Part 2 Flashcards

1
Q

Omasum

A
  • located: 8th-11th ribs

-RIGHT SIDE

  • aka manyplies or butcher’s bible
  • function: pump to move ingesta from reticulum to abomasum, vfa production and H2O absorption
  • reticulomasal and omasoabomasal orifice

Q

Abomasum

A
  • RIGHT SIDE
  • 8th-12th ribs
  • not palpable
  • attached by greater and lesser omentum
  • supraomental recess
  • torus pyloricus
  • Clin sig: LDA/RDA, maybe volvulus

Q

Abomasal displacement (general)

A
  • common in dairy cattle on low roughage diet
  • LDA more common
  • diagnosing: ascultation & percussion along line between 9th-13th ribs; hearing a “ping” on the L or R side at 11th ICS
  • treatment: right flank laparotomy (LDA/RDA) and pyloropexy

Q

Reverse 7 NB

A
  • Left flank laparotomy
  • inject: line along entire cd. surface of last rib, caudally @ level of transverse processes of vertebrae to L4/L5 lumbar space
  • place in skin, muscle, and peritoneum
17
Q

7 NB

A
  • right flank laparotomy
  • same as reverse 7, just reversed
18
Q

Liver biopsy

A
  • r side
  • 10th to 11th ICS
19
Q

Ruminocentesis

A
  • L side, ventral sac
  • horizontal line at top of patella, caudoventral to CCJ of last rib
