Procedure for study 1 of rosenhan?
Phoned up 12 psychiatric hospitals for an urgent appointment as they said they were heating unclear voices in their heads, they were admitted then started acting normal again and took notes of their experience.
Study 2 of rosenhan procedure?
Phoned up saying they would send it pseudo patients but never did. Staff were aware of the results to study one and were asked to rate patients on the likelihood that they are pseudo patients or insane.
Procedure of study 3 of rosenhan?
In the 4 hospitals, the pseudo patients asked staff ‘pardon me, can you please tell me when I will be eligible for ground privileges?’ They did it as normally as they could and avoided asking the same question twice in the same day.
Study 1 in rosenhan results?
All pseudo patients were admitted, normal behaviour was seen as insane and obsessive, no staff suspected them but 35 patients voiced their suspicions! Pseudo patients stayed in for 7-52 days.
Study 2 results to rosenhan?
193 patients assessed, 41 rated pseudo by at least 2 staff. 23 rated pseudo by at least 1 psychiatrist and one other member.

88% of nurses don’t even stop or look up when a patients speaks to them. 25% of doctors make eye contact when a patient speaks to them.

No staff suspected anyone who was a pseudo patients and interpretation was appalling.

Staff were unable to detect insanity.

Patients are powerless when on a mental ward.
What are the aims to the three studies in rosenhan?
Study 1: to see if sane people could get themselves admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Study2: to see if hospitals who knew they would be approached my pseudo patients would be able to tell the sane from the insane.
