4 types of rosacea
- erythrotelangiectatic rosacea (aka vascular rosacea)
- papulopustular rosacea
- phymatous rosacea
- ocular rosacea
manifestation of erythrotelangiectatic rosacea
(persistent erythema lasting at least 3 months)
- flushing and vasodilation of facial blood vessels
- progresses to permanent erythema, then telangiectasia
- affects central area of face, ears, neck, upper chest
manifestation of papulopustular rosacea
persistent development of inflammatory papule and pustule on central face
manifestation of phymatous rosacea
skin hyperplasia due to chronic inflammation
- most common in nose, rhinophyma
also has telangiectasia
manifestation of ocular rosacea
blepharitis
conjunctivitis
personal characteristics assoc. with rosacea
- fair skin
- blue eyes
- european, Celtic origin
- age 30-50
- females > males

medication treatment of rosacea (broadly, and duration)
topical (mild)
- metronidazole or azelaic acid
oral doxycycline
- add-on or if moderate
treat for 6-12 weeks. like acne
difference between acne and rosacea
rosacea won’t have comedos
non-medication management of rosacea (6)
knowledge
- educate on chronic inflammatory nature of rosacea
- identify and avoid triggers
topical products
- soap-free, abrasive free cleansers
- moisturise if dry skin
- use green /yellow tint cosmetics to conceal redness
- sun-protection -broad -spectrum sunscreen
