what is the rooting reflex? when is it no longer present?
baby turns to side when you stroke side of mouth
stops at 4 months
what is the suck reflex?
when does it first develop?
baby will suck on a finger if you touch the roof of mouth
starts at 32-36 weeks (premies have lousy reflex)
what is the moro / startle reflex
how long is it present until
baby falls backwards, or startled by a noise
neck hyperextends along with arms, legs. then they flex back in
lasts until 2 months
what is the tonic neck reflex
how long is it present
baby’s head is turned to one side - arm on turning side extends, and other arm bends at elbow (fencing reflex)
stops at 5-7 months
what is the grasp reflex
which body parts is it present
how long is it present
stroke the palm or sole of a baby, and it will grasp the thing stroking it
palms last until 5-6 months
feet last until 9-12 months
what is the stepping reflex
how long is it present
hold a baby upright just above floor or flat surface, and they’ll start stepping
stops at 2 months
