Root Hair Cells Flashcards
1
Q
What is a root hair cell?
A
A specialised cell in the roots which are adapted for absorption by having finger-like extensions, providing a larger surface area for increased absorption of minerals.
2
Q
How are nitrates taken into the cell?
A
By active transport, which requires energy. It transports the nitrates against a concentration gradient. Cells make the energy needed for Active Uptake during respiration.
This means that cells need oxygen for aerobic respiration to produce energy to move the nitrates against the concentration gradient.
3
Q
Why is there poor plant growth in waterlogged soil?
A
- Less oxygen
- Less respiration
- Less energy
- Less active uptake
- Less plant growth
